What is your handle (screen name) for most sites/IMing/E-mail? Does this internet persona differ much from you in real life? In other words, are you overall the same person online as you are in real life? I know lots of people who are a lot more outgoing and crazy online than they are in real life, and sometimes the case can be the opposite. If this is the case for you, why do you think these differences occur for you? I highly doubt anyone in the class is exactly the same online as offline, so don't you use that answer as a cop out from answering more questions. Are you more creative in one world than the other? What is it about the internet or real life that changes the way you express yourself or your ideas?

My internet handle for sites/IMing/Email varies between two different themes. (if I understand the question right) Most of my screen names either have a paper reference, or a reference to a nickname of mine, or both. Basically my handle's are based upon identifying traits that I have. Either way, my internet persona doesn't seem any different from my real life persona, but according to my friends I used to be nerdier in real life than online. Probably because I was already in a somewhat of a nerdy environment when I'm online, so the contrast isn't as outstanding. Also, My friends tell me I'm nicer online. This could be for multiple reasons. One, I have more time to think about what I say online and can simply play it off as typing slow or leaving the moniter. I can be more careful about what I say so I don't sound cruel or ignorant. Also, in real time, I you can see every face I make in response to what you say in the conversation, and I have to say something quickly in response so I don't look stupid. I think I'm more creative digitally than I am IRL (in real life) because I have more ways to channel my creativity online through animation, images, etc. In real life I can't really create things like that. When I'm on the internet I'm close to all of the other digital functions a computer has. Image, sound editing, animating, and so much more, while IRL all I have is face to face talking. There are much fewer ways to quickly express yourself when you can't instantly call up an image or an animation, or say go watch this video to get what I'm talking about. You can express and explain things much more easily online than you can IRL, so that's probably why I say I'm more creative online, where I can express myself better.
