The Komondor

komondor

Appearance

Ranging from 25.5-27.5 inches at the shoulder and weighing in at around 80-100 pounds, the Komondor represents a mop with 2 eyes and 4 feet and a body. It comes in white as well as black and lives 10-12 years.

Health and Grooming

In general, the Komondor is moderately healthy. It takes a lot of work to take good care of this dog's very unique coat. It tends to attract dirt and despite its dreadlock look, you really don't want this coat smelling bad, being too dirty, or getting matted. Typically, after getting a Komondor you should go for a professional and ask for advice on how to groom.

Temperament

Tough and independent, the Komondor is a hardworking dog who is very affectionate towards his owners, but less so towards strangers. He's very territorial and protective of his family and home and for this reason, he also makes an excellent watchdog.

Friendliness and Exercise Needs

Surprisingly, and unlike most other larger dogs, this guy does not need too much exercise. He's able to find it on his own with a fenced in yard and enough space. He's very loving towards his family, but not so much towards anyone else, so if you're considering getting one of these guys, make sure you understand this.
