The Havanese

Appearance

The Havanese is about 8.5-11.5 inches at the shoulder and weighs 7-13 pounds. It tends to live for 14-15 years. At one point in time the Havanese was nearly extinct, only existing in Cuba. Now, it's a super popular designer dog.

Health and Grooming

The Havanese is pretty average when it comes to health. Nothing special, but also nothing particularly bad. The Havanese has double coat, that can be silky or fluffy, depending on the owner's preference. A Havanese with a long silky coat requires a lot of grooming, every day in fact. While a Havanese with a shorter coat requires grooming much less often.

Temperament

The Havanese loves attention. He can be a little naughty at times, as he loves to shred paper. He loves his owners very much and alerts them to strangers. He has a great sense of humor and is willing to perform to please his owners. His eager-to-please nature and high intelligence, makes him a very trainable dog. He doesn't do well being left alone, and loves to stay plastered to his owners side.

Friendliness and Exercise Needs

The Havanese doesn't need too much exercise, and like many dogs, loves to play. He's also one of the friendliest dogs out there! He's not only amazingly affectionate with his family, he also loves other dogs, kids, and is even welcoming towards strangers (which can be viewed as both good and bad).
