The West Highland White Terrier/p>

Westie

Appearance

The West Highland White Terrier, also known as the Westie, is a small terrier. Like it's name would suggest, the westie has a beautiful white coat. He is 10-11 inches tall from the shoulder and tends to weigh 13-22 pounds.

Health and Grooming

Their health is fairly good and they only have a moderate chance for weight gain. Like many small non-shedding dogs, while they don't shed a coat, they still need heavy grooming, which can be a nuisance.

Temperament

Westies are very independent and self-assured, and while they don't need pampering, they do not object to it. They're intelligent and should be easy to train. Like many terriers, a westie may have the problem of barking incessantly, but he can be trained to stop. Again, like terriers, he may have a natural prey drive, so having small animals around the house may be potentially problematic.

Friendliness and Exercise Needs

He's very affectionate towards his owners but not so much towards other dogs. He can be friendly towards strangers and kids, but it's entirely dependent on the dog's personality. He needs a lot of exercise needs and can be very playful. A long walk twice a day would be excellent, along with some playtime.
