Welcome To The Ultimate Survival Guide To Minecraft!

This Is The Nether Section!

Is it getting hot in here, or is it jus- wait! I think it's the Nether! Explore the lava-y depths of the nether as an explorer, or try to survive the blazes just long enough to get the necessities. Whatever you do is up to you! I will just guide you through. (Heh, see that rhyme?)

Da Potions

You may have heard that potions are hard to make, and, I'll admit it, it's true. But, with the knowledge I will now bestow on you, this'll be no problem!

Here are some helpful recipes, and tips on how to get useful items:

A picture of a brewing stand in use
Some awkward potions in the making!
Brewing Stand:
Since 1.9, you need blaze powder to fuel the brewing stand, so get a lot of blaze rods! You need to kill blazes to get blaze rods, so gear up! To make a brewing stand, you need 3 cobblestone along the bottom row of the crafting table, and one blaze rod in the middle of the crafting table. To make blaze powder, put a blaze rod in a crafting table.
Awkward Potion:
Fuel your brewing stand! Put a water bottle (made by right-clicking a water-source with an empty glass bottle)in one of the bottom slots. Put some nether wart (found growing in a nether fortress)in the top slot. Wait until it has stopped brewing, and save it for the next potion.
Strength Potion:
Fuel up that brewing stand, 'cause you're about to get stronger! Put that Awkward potion in one of the bottom slots, and some blaze powder in the top. After a little bit, you should have a strength potion!
Health Potion:
This is the last time I tell you to fuel up, ok? Good. Let's make glistering melon! Surround a melon slice with golden nuggets in a crafting table. Now, put that in the top slot of the brewing stand. Put an awkward potion in a bottom slot. Wait. Sit down, and enjoy!
Speed Potion
Take some sugar and put it in the top slot. Take an awkward potion and put it in a bottom slot. Wait. Gotta go fast!
Night vision and Invisibility
Let's craft a gold carrot! Surround a carrot with gold nuggets in a crafting table. Put that gold carrot in the top slot of the brewing stand, while the awkward potion goes in a bottom slot. Now you have night vision! If you want an invisibility potion, put in a fermented spider eye.
Regeneration
Kill a ghast to get a ghast tear. Put said ghast tear in the top of the brewing stand. Awkward potion in a bottom slot. Drink up.
Damage Potion
Craft a fermented spider eye with a normal spider eye, sugar, and a brown mushroom. Place that in the top slot of the brewing stand, and a health potion in the bottom. Let brew.
DO NOT DRINK!
Poison
Put a fermented spider eye in the top slot, and a potion of regeneration in a bottom slot. Enjoy. :P
Weakness
You know the drill. Eye up top. Strength potion in bottom. Drink before battle.
Slowness
Eye=top. Speed=bottom. YOU KNOW THIS ALREADY! Enjoy before a walk. :D
Other
There are a few other potions I didn't mention, but you can find out about those if absolutely necessary. Let's talk about modifiers. Simply brew the modifier into the potion, and you're done! These are modifiers: redstone increases time, glowstone dust increases level, gunpowder turns potion into a splash potion, and dragon's breath turns it into a lingering potion.

Da Nether Mobs

Here is a list of all the mobs you might encounter in the nether:

Pigman
Very common. They are neutral until you hit them. When you hit them, all the pigmen in the vicinity will start to attack. Sometimes drop golden nuggets and golden swords.
Blaze
Found in fortresses. Drops blaze rods. Essential for brewing and going to the end.
Ghast
Uncommon. Drops ghast tears for brewing.
Magma
Uncommon. Drops magma cream.
Wither Skeleton
Found in fortresses. Drops wither skulls rarely to make wither boss.

Da Nether Fortress

It's the go-to place to satisfy all your boss-making, brewing, end-get-to-ing, and dying needs. Your first order 'o business is to find a blaze spawner, and farm some blazes and wither skellies. You have to have good gear, unless you want to die to those nether monsters. Note: Don't touch the pigmen!

Da Other Things

Ok. Let's talk about the new blocks from 1.10. The magma block is one you want to stay away from. It burns you unless you sneak on it. It can be crafted with 4 magma cream, and is commonly found in patches. The other two can only be crafted. One with a criss-cross pattern of two nether bricks and two nether wart. The other is four nether wart.
